About thebakeboutique

I have been refining my skills and passion as a cake decorator for about 6 years now. I had a great opportunity to work in an award winning shop for 2 years as one of the head decorators and designers. Now, I am working alone, honing and building off the skills that I have learned. I desire to show the world beauty with flour and sugar as my medium.

Chugga-chugga two two

Another fun, birthday filled weekend. I love that these parents saved this theme for their two-year-old. Having a little boy myself who will soon be two (crazy!), I can see that little boys definitely love their planes, trains and automobiles.

This family does such a great job with setting up for their kids’ parties. They decorate everywhere and if that isn’t enough also have fun activities lined up like a snow cone trailer and a train that goes around the neighborhood, choo-choo! I have loved making desserts for their girls so what a treat it was to make their son’s birthday desserts as well.

My little guy was my delivery assistant on this delivery. It was rather difficult to pry him away from the festivities. Who doesn’t love a good party?

Believe it or not, I am quite the minimalist. So when I go on a delivery and my clients have ordered desserts from me plus they have a whole dessert spread that they have assembled and arranged themselves, I am so impressed. Everything looks mouth-watering.

I designed the cake and cookies using the invitation as inspiration. I loved this one, simple but oh-so-cute. The triangle confetti sprinkles had to be used in the design.

It’s my birthday and I’ll throw my own party…

For the past couple years, my husband’s side of the family came up with the idea that when someone’s birthday comes around they host their own event. We used to all go out to a fancy dinner as a family but as the family has grown that old tradition became increasingly more difficult and expensive. Thus, the new tradition, host your own party. This has become fun. Because who knows more of what you like than yourself. Make or order your favorite food, desserts, the works; all within the comfortable environment of a home.

This year, my brother and sister-in-law graciously decided to host my birthday. Having thought beforehand of what I might have done if I threw my own party, I couldn’t let those ideas go. So, I kept with tradition and hosted my own party any way, this time inviting my parents and siblings along with their families. Funny enough, my side of the family was shocked with this idea. “You’re hosting your own party?” “Yep!”

My husband and I love to cook together and have dinner parties so anytime we have a special occasion to have people over for a meal, we take it. Whether it be a Christmas party, fakesgiving, Inauguration Day, I-feel-like-eating-yummy-Chinese, you get the picture, if we don’t have an actual reason for an event we make one. But, what better reason to have a get-together than a birthday?

Having made other people’s cakes and cookies for all their special events for almost 10 years now, I thought, I should probably make some for myself. So I did. And enjoyed every second of it. Of course, I used the too-brown-to-sell cookies, it’s a start.

So here’s my party….Dessert:

Beetroot Chocolate Cake with berries

Sugar Cookies

I have been wanting to make this cake recipe for a few weeks now. Wow! Is it good, a little specific instructions but do yourself a favor and test it out!

Also, that chocolate frosting is so heavenly, my toddler and I were licking our fingers, the spoons, the spatulas. None of that went to waste. It would also make a great dip for fruit if you want to skip the cake (not recommended) and just eat that.

Dinner menu:

Homemade hoagie rolls

Smoked bbq tri-tip

Coleslaw

Danielle Walker’s potato salad from her book, Celebrations

Baked beans

Like I said, my husband and I love to cook together. It’s such a joy to plan a menu and bring all the ingredients together to make a meal that can be shared. He’s the king of bbq and has pretty much ruined any chance of me enjoying meat at any restaurants. He’s my favorite cook. And meat is always on the menu.

We planned out this menu to go with our overall look and theme. Comfort food, summer food. All the bright colors of the vegetables and fruit look so pretty with the whimsy chamomile flowers and my favorite, tulips.

What a lovely evening it was. And such a great way to show my family how much I love them for all the love and support they have shown me these past TWENTY- SEVEN years.
