The holidays are just around the corner. If you need just a little more festive cheer, look no further this cake is sure to put a grin on your face and a twinkle in your eye. This cake was made for a wedding at the end of the summer, but I am reminded by the holidays because of the metallic bronze tiers and the soft white overlay of rice paper flowers. I love all the gold and white at Christmas time, there is nothing prettier than a tree decorated with white lights and just gold ornaments. Here we have just that gold and white, a beautiful, classic combination.
The bride is a florist, as you can imagine there were flowers everywhere at this wedding. During the design process, a lot of the photos of cakes that the bride sent me for inspiration had flowers in them. I wanted to be sure that the flowers were a major part of her cake, because if anyone loves flowers it would be a florist.
There has been a trend in making flowers out of rice paper, these flowers are so pretty, delicate and create texture. For the final design, I created a cake with the paper flowers cascading down the side of the cake, swagged pearls on top of an airbrushed metallic cake and a tier completed covered in the flowers.
Believe it or not these flowers are much more easy to make than gum paste sugar flowers and the results just as impressive. There is no rolling out, forming or drying time, just cut and stick! I love how Shay Thomason captured them in these photos.
